What
is an SIA Licence? |
From
March 20 2006 it has become compulsory for security staff in England
and Wales to be licensed. The Security Industry Authority (SIA)
has brought in the new licensing scheme to
reflect the more professional image of the industry. Licences
for each job are being introduced gradually. |
|
The
first job to be fully licensed was door supervisor. Other security
roles were licensed by early 2006. From April 11 2005 it has been
illegal to work as Security Officer without a licence. Since then,
police have carried out random checks to confirm that the Security
Officers are fully licensed. Working without a licence could mean
a fine of up to £5,000 and/or up to six months in prison.
